Mission Science Workshop

released their 2024-25 Impact Report to share highlights from their community work this past fiscal year. Nearly 20,000 students and their families participated in the STEM-themed programs served through three community science centers in San Francisco鈥檚 Mission, Excelsior, and Bayview neighborhoods. The programs help youth from communities historically underrepresented in the sciences get inspired by fascinating activities such as exploring the 鈥淕iant Blood Vessel,鈥 鈥淲hale on Wheels,鈥 and a variety of accessible and fun educational projects.

Center for Reaching & Teaching the Whole Child

Last month, (CRTWC) founder, Dr. Nancy Markowitz officially retired from active involvement with the project. Over the last 15 years, Nancy pioneered the integration of social, emotional, and cultural competencies into teacher preparation, educator development, and systems change. Her tenure has impacted thousands of educators and students through her groundbreaking collaborations with institutions across California, Oregon, and beyond. WiDS Worldwide

recently held their second annual WiDS Datathon++ University Edition, which engaged 150 universities in 37 countries, including universities in underserved communities. The event focused on women鈥檚 brain health and the information developed is used by instructors across all levels and fields of study.

Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement

Registration is open for (CSCCE) next cohort of Scientific Community Engagement Fundamentals, a foundational online multi-week training for those looking for evidence-based strategies to nurture collaboration in STEM. Nearly 400 STEM professionals have taken the training to date, touting the practical applicability, thoughtful delivery, and opportunities for connection with other STEM community managers. The training will run Mondays and Thursdays, starting September 4 through October 23, 2025.

Hep B Free

Join for the upcoming Hep B Hero 5k Run/Walk at San Francisco鈥檚 Crissy Field. Participants will enjoy fresh air and scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge while raising funds to meet Hep B Free鈥檚 end of summer goal of $10K. The fundraiser will help them to continue their work to save lives through the promotion of community awareness about hepatitis B and increase access to affordable testing and vaccination. Registration for the walk is $35 per person with the proceeds counting towards donations for the project.
