The Carpentries: Library Carpentry Blog<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"library<\/a>The Carpentries<\/a>\u2019 most recent blog post focuses on the expansion of their Library Carpentry project, which began with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This funding, and additional funding from the IMLS, has allowed The Carpentries to expand its collaborative community and make computational skills \"institutetraining widely available to librarians and researchers across disciplines. In\u00a02020, The Carpentries partnered with five libraries across the U.S. to explore new membership models that would seed future consortia. These libraries have also enabled broader access to computational skills training in and beyond their communities.<\/p>\n

Vision Zero Network: Upcoming Webinar<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"gavel<\/a>Vision Zero Network<\/a> will be hosting a webinar, \u201cAddressing Unjust Financial Penalties in Traffic Safety\u201d, on Wednesday, May 12 from 10am to 11am PT. Joined by Fines and Fees Justice Center\u2019s National Policy and Campaigns Director, Priya Sarathy Jones, Vision Zero Network will be addressing how traffic citations and the resulting financial penalties disproportionately harm low-income communities and people of color. Participants will look closely at local efforts currently prioritizing racial- and income-equity in Vision Zero advocacy.<\/p>\n

The Press Forward: Article in Ms. Magazine<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"woman<\/a>Ms. Magazine<\/em>\u00a0recently republished an article written by Carolyn McGourty Supple, cofounder and executive director of The Press Forward<\/a>, and Elisa Lees Munoz. The article, \u201cTo Get More News Coverage of Women, We Need More Women Making the News\u201d, discusses gender inequity in the press and calls for a change in newsroom culture. The article uses COVID-19 news coverage and the pandemic\u2019s disproportionate effects on women as a prime example of the gap between women\u2019s lived experiences and the way their stories and the issues that impact them are being portrayed in the media. The Press Forward has been actively working to address this problem by annually onboarding news organizations into the McKinsey & Co. and LeanIn.org \u201cWomen in the Workplace\u201d study to examine gender inequality. They then convene news leaders to collectively examine and discuss the problem through evidence-based solutions and by implementing best practices with the goal of ensuring women and underrepresented communities are supported, retained, and advanced at entry- and mid-level positions.<\/p>\n

Castro Country Club: \u201cAt The CCC\u201d Podcast<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"At<\/a>Castro Country Club<\/a>, \u201ca clean and sober gathering place for all people and a home for the queer recovery community,\u201d launched their recovery-focused podcast, \u201cAt The CCC\u201d, in April. Hosted by Lou Lou and Bonnie Violet, the podcast is live on Tuesdays at 6pm PT on Facebook and YouTube. The most recent episode featured Eric Dorsa, a national LGBTQIA mental health and recovery advocate and host of \u201cQueen & Sober\u201d, sharing their experiences of eating disorder recovery, coming out as a gay and non-binary person, and their recovery from substance use disorder.<\/p>\n
